York St John University has climbed seven places in the latest Guardian University Guide league table. York St John is now in 77th place in the UK as a whole and is ranked 5th in Yorkshire.

The Guardian rankings have a stated aim to “focus on the things students care about.” This includes good teaching and job prospects.

Universities are ranked through nine different scores, which form a total out of 100. This year York St John University scored 66.1.

The scores include what students say about their teaching, feedback and the course itself in the annual National Student Survey (NSS). This year the Guide combined 2021 and 2022 NSS scores to reflect how universities responded to the pandemic.

It has been a particularly strong year for several subject areas at York St John University.

Our Creative Writing courses are rated in the top 10 in the UK, with a score of 81.7 out of 100. Sports Science at York St John got a score of 77.1 and was placed 11th in the UK. And our Health Professions (including physiotherapy and OT) courses scored a very positive 82.1 and gained 16th position nationally.

The Vice Chancellor of York St John University, Professor Karen Bryan OBE said: “It is positive to see such a strong performance in a league table that reflects what matters to students. Studying at York St John is about the breadth of student experience and being part of a community. We have a holistic approach to supporting and encouraging our students during their time with us and beyond.”
